It would be really cool if you could split the SH mode into a one-bar and two-bar mode. If you add it, make sure the bars in this mode all move at the same speed (it would make it more okay that they don't in the core game). Matches all iOS devices: iPhone, iPad, iPod. ![]() He placed a large order, and within a year, "everyone had to have one". Upon returning from vacation, he was surprised to find that his store did not carry the game. According to legend, Scrabble 's big break came in 1952 when Jack Straus, president of Macy's, played the game on vacation. They made 2,400 sets that year but lost money. : 100 In 1949, Brunot and his family made sets in a converted former schoolhouse in Dodgingtown, Connecticut, a section of Newtown. Although he left most of the game (including the distribution of letters) unchanged, Brunot slightly rearranged the "premium" squares of the board and simplified the rules he also renamed the game Scrabble, a real word which means "to scratch frantically". In 1948, James Brunot, a resident of Newtown, Connecticut, and one of the few owners of the original Criss-Crosswords game, bought the rights to manufacture the game in exchange for granting Butts a royalty on every unit sold. He manufactured a few sets himself but was not successful in selling the game to any major game manufacturers of the day. ![]() The new game, which he called Criss-Crosswords, added the 15×15 gameboard and the crossword-style gameplay. The two games had the same set of letter tiles, whose distributions and point values Butts worked out by performing a frequency analysis of letters from various sources, including The New York Times. In 1938, the American architect Alfred Mosher Butts created the game as a variation on an earlier word game he invented, called Lexiko. This was used to determine the number and scores of tiles in the game. Most modern replacement tile sets come at 18 mm × 20 mm (0.7 in × 0.8 in).Īlfred Butts manually tabulated the frequency of letters in words of various length, using examples in a dictionary, the Saturday Evening Post, the New York Herald Tribune, and The New York Times. The capital letter is printed in black at the centre of the tile face and the letter's point value is printed in a smaller font at the bottom right corner. 13 mm × 13 mm (0.51 in × 0.51 in)) sometimes they are magnetic to keep them in place. ![]() Travelling versions of the game often have smaller tiles (e.g. Only the rosewood tiles of the deluxe edition vary in width up to 2 mm (0.08 in) for different letters. Tiles are usually made of wood or plastic and are 19 by 19 millimetres (0.75 in × 0.75 in) square and 4 mm (0.16 in) thick, making them slightly smaller than the squares on the board. ![]() Other language sets use different letter set distributions with different point values. The blank tiles can be used as substitutes for any letter once laid on the board, however, the choice is fixed. The game also has two blank tiles that are unmarked and carry no point value. Commonly used letters such as vowels are worth one point, while less common letters score higher, with Q and Z each worth 10 points. The number of points for each lettered tile is based on the letter's frequency in standard English. In an English-language set, the game contains 100 tiles, 98 of which are marked with a letter and a point value ranging from 1 to 10. Each tile is marked with its point value, with a blank tile - the game's equivalent of a wild card - played as the word's first letter. The name of the game spelled out in game tiles from the English-language version. Comprehension in each direction hovered at around 50%. Jensen had Portuguese and Spanish speakers (all from Latin America, and none expert at the other language) listen to passages in the other language, then answer comprehension questions in their own language. Florida International University professor John B. I’ve only found one study that addresses this question systematically. It’s also echoed in linguistic literature, most notably by eminent Spanish scholar Ralph Penny: “speakers of Spanish understand at least some of what is said in Portuguese, and the Portuguese speakers will understand a good deal more of what is said in Spanish” ( Variation and Change in Spanish, p. This isn’t just my own observation ask any Spanish speaker, and you’re likely to hear the same thing. This impression has stuck with me in later encounters with Portuguese speakers. At the time, I had the impression that our Brazilian cousins could understand our Spanish much better than we understood their Portuguese. In particular, our Brazilian cousins spoke Portuguese to me and my father, and we spoke Spanish to them. Her two brothers immigrated to Brazil.Īs a result, our occasional and joyous get-togethers with the extended family were a linguistic smörgåsbord featuring Polish, Yiddish, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Her three sisters, who didn’t look Jewish, managed to survive the war hiding in plain sight in Poland, then married conscripted French laborers and moved to France. My grandmother had already immigrated from Poland to the United States. This job is best to have as a part time, for extra money but not as your main source of income because of the inconsistencies. After the second World War, my grandmother’s family scattered all over the world. So, if you are one of those who is disrespectful, likes cursing at work, and just likes to hang out and socialize. There are good monitors that not on the schedule, and there are loud, gossipers, and people who just go there to hang out, that do make it into the schedule. Also, if you don't work enough hours per month you WOULD lose your health benefits. This is why people are constantly leaving this job. Someone who would take the time, before scheduling, to give employees the same opportunity and same amount of hours as their favorites. Someone who would take the time and check how many hours each employee has worked with those that have been home, before scheduling the same people. The only thing that can change that culture is for it to become a more balanced, fair place of work, is to bring a Supervisor from the outside who is bias and knows no one at the job. ![]() Same people are working all the time and the new Supervisor still puts on the schedule her tight knit. If you are not in the tight group forget about having stability in the job. There is no room for growth and interestingly enough personal friends of the supervisor were hired to be team leaders.įavoritism is a huge problem in Atlanta. This is a very cool job but was completely ruined by the leadership they picked. When days off are requested and approved you get punished with hours taken away from your schedule. They have a very unstable review of your work process. You can’t opt out of their insurance and they will take the insurance away if you don’t work enough hours. It pays okay ( with inflation and gas prices I don’t even know if it’s that competitive) It’s been very slow for a while and many people sitting at home, yet the company continues to hire new people. There is a rule in the employee handbook about no fraternizing and the supervisor is dating one of the clients… yet no higher ups seem to raise an eyebrow. ![]() So you basically accumulate all this sick pay and never get to use it because you're never working or always working. If you have any overtime and get sick you can't use your sick pay. ![]() If you aren't on a case you can't use your sick pay. Also, they're always pushing to hire but there's already not enough work for their current employees. Some will try to make you look bad to make themselves look better. Coworkers are usually nice but it does get competitive. ![]() If you can't leave when they want you to, they'll go with someone who will. You are also less likely to be sent for travel work if you ask for rentals or a flight. If you travel they don't pay per diem or gas, they want to make you travel in your own vehicle (so if anything happens it's on you), they even want you staying with family and friends so they don't have to pay for a hotel. The company just wants to nickel and dime everything. It's project-based so unless you travel (frequently and have to know the right people) work is too inconsistent to justify staying. The work itself is interesting so that's a plus. The amount linguists get paid is the biggest pro. ![]() Select the “Log In” button again.Unique decorations, crafting and character styles. The one-on-one battles are hugely emphasised thanks to the slower movement, and those big strong defenders do stand out, able to put their arm out and bat weaker players away like flies. Goals are hard earned, and it’s a more defensive experience than ever this time. The default mode is far too automatic, resulting in passes going to players you didn’t intend them to.ĮFootball also seems like a game where you won’t win games 10-0 all the time. ![]() ![]() Changing the options to a more manual feel meant that these teams required a little more work to score with, which I liked. Juventus and Bayern Munich felt the best, though bizarrely the lower quality teams like River Place and Corinthians made for an interesting matchup, too. The slower nature of the game meant I didn’t enjoy their usual possession style, but a style-change made them better. Even changing Barcelona to an “on-the-break” team made them more enjoyable to me. The tactical options do make a noticeable difference on the pitch, though. Changing tactics didn’t alleviate the problems, so it seems a core AI issue, not a tactical one. For eFootball to compete at all this year, the gameplay has to be exceptional, and there were a few moments where I wanted my AI teammates to pick the ball up and they just let it pass them by. ![]() There are also a number of AI issues that I was informed would be fixed and they really must be. These issues, I’m told, are due to it being an older build. In fact, there feels a real lack of pace overall, with even the quicker players just, well… not seeming very quick. Harry Maguire, Giorgio Chiellini, and Gerard Piqué are tanks, strong and almost impossible to tackle, and it’s fine if they are cumbersome to actually move with, but hardly any of the players can turn quickly. On top of that, players feel either too animated, or not animated enough. I even accidentally elbowed someone in the face trying to get ahead of them defending a break, such is the vigor and ferocity of the physical nature present here. L2 allows you to grab a shirt, or “get physical” with your opponent during a one-on-one, and it feels like something entirely new to learn. eFootball 2022 is slower, for sure, but I don’t think I’ve ever played a digital football game that is quite as physical as this one. But before you ask: no, the commentary is no better than usual.īut that simulation aspect is something I can’t stop thinking about. Couple all of that with a new camera that zooms in and out subtly, and it looks great. There are small touches that keep the game flowing as well, making the presentation seem generally better. Aside from some crowd faces that wouldn’t look out of place in the original Quake, the licensed stadiums and players look superb. Regardless, work has been done to make this game look exceptional. Let’s not beat around the bush here, either: this game is free-to-play, launches with 9 teams (all of which I’ve seen in action now), and there’s no gameplay good enough that is going to make that feel like enough, free or not. ![]() If your design selected as the most effective one, you is likely to be rewarded with cash (in-game virtual currency). ![]() The rooms and offices you've decorated is likely to be tested and voted by other real players online to find the best decorations among them. You see, if I'm trying to look out a couple months as an investment horizon, I want to be focused on the longer-term trends (which I like to capture with my Market Trend Model ), but also understand the shorter-term fluctuations. So, when the S&P 500 broke above the 50-day moving average this week, I definitely took notice.įor me, the 50-day moving average is a key component to understanding trend. The 50-day moving average represents about 20% of the trading days in a calendar year, or about two and a half months. Quite simply, when the price is above its average price for the last couple months, that's bullish.īut here's the catch: it's all about time frames. This has helped me to avoid some of the temptation of behavioral biases like confirmation bias and endowment bias and focus more on the evidence that the markets provide. I've learned that this game is all about identifying a key level, price, signal, or what I call a "line in the sand," at which point you agree to revisit your investment thesis. ![]() For the last couple months, when someone would bring up some bullish argument, my response would usually be something like, "Sure, but we're still below the 50-day moving average." Its critical standing diminished slightly in later years nonetheless, several writers view it as an important and influential album in the history of rock music. Tommy was acclaimed upon its release by critics, who hailed it as The Who's breakthrough. Recording on the album began in September 1968, but took six months to complete as material needed to be arranged and re-recorded in the studio. Townshend came up with the concept of Tommy after being introduced to the work of Meher Baba, and attempted to translate Baba's teachings into music. His followers eventually reject him and his teachings. Tommy then tries to lead his followers to believe that the only path to healing is through him. When the mirror is eventually broken, Tommy comes out of his dissociative state. Instead, Tommy becomes self-absorbed and comes to think of himself as a messianic figure. After numerous misguided attempts to heal Tommy, a doctor prescribes him a mirror so he can confront himself and his experience.
